FASHION-UP Grand Finale in Florence – Fashion That Changes the Rules

On February 18–19, 2026, all FASHION-UP partners gathered in Florence to officially close our 28-month journey. Teams from Italy, Portugal, Poland, and Greece met to sum up months of work on the Upcycling Training Kit (UpTraK), the 220-hour pilot courses, and the collections that proved circular fashion is not just an idea — it’s a real, creative force.
During the meeting, we reviewed the impact of the training program, which empowered young people, NEETs, individuals undergoing professional retraining, and women in vulnerable situations to gain high-quality skills in creative textile reuse. We finalized the Open Educational Resources (OER), discussed evaluation results, and planned how to keep the FASHION-UP legacy alive beyond the project’s official end.
But let’s be honest — there was one moment everyone had been waiting for.
The Fashion Show We Had Been Preparing for Months
The absolute highlight of the meeting was the final fashion show. This was the moment we had been working toward for months — from the first sketches and fabric selection to construction, fittings, and last-minute adjustments backstage.
The venue was packed. The audience showed up in full force, and the atmosphere was exactly what we hoped for: energy, excitement, and genuine admiration for the designers’ work. All collections were presented on the runway: the Italian Rinascimento 2.0, the Portuguese O Mar Que Nos Une, the Polish Reclaimed Elegance Line, and the Greek Textile Memories.
Every single piece was 100% regenerated — no newly purchased materials. Vintage garments, forgotten tablecloths, old trousseaus, heavy curtains rediscovered in trunks — all transformed into stunning fashion statements. And yes, they were absolutely breathtaking. These were not “student projects.” These were bold, runway-ready creations.
The best part? The designers themselves walked with pride, showcasing their own work. You could see the confidence, the growth, and the months of dedication behind every look.
What’s Next?
FASHION-UP proved that upcycling is more than a trend — it’s a mindset. A new way of thinking about fashion, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. We are leaving behind concrete results: the UpTraK program, the project catalog, and open educational materials available to everyone.
Florence marked the end of the project. But for many of us, it’s just the beginning.
